PLEASURE IN BEING LIMITLESS
An artist's work inevitably serves as a reflection of themselves. By inserting my body into the work, through installation and performance, I created self portraits at specific points in the evolution of my art practice.
Myths and archetypes arise from our psyches through art and storytelling. They mirror our collective unconscious and shared humanity. Deities manifest power we all possess. The earliest known images of women in the Americas are goddess figures. Exploring those images, concepts, and identities has revealed unsullied Indigenous worldviews, devoid of Eurocentric male dictated hierarchies.
Incorporating materials I have used in previous installations, this work introduces a new motif, the Inka tupu, an ornament and tool denoting status and the wearer’s connections to the universe. Here it acts as the connecting point, or linchpin, between the goddess, the artist, and the viewer.

The title comes from Helene Cixous' writing about jouissance. This work, however, is about more than female sexuality, it's a snapshot of this moment in my life and art. No longer restrained.
